SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE
Cafe Music School offers something for EVERYONE! No matter your age, level, experience, instrument, genre of music, or need... our goal is to have a musical option for you. We offer everything from private lessons for every age, to toddler and preschool music and dance, to theatre, to DJ Classes (also one-of-a-kind) to Music Therapy to Summer Camps! Our very popular Intro To Instruments is also unique that children are introduced and they get to try piano, guitar, voice, drums and also take part in games, musical activities and theory!
Receptionists are available for every shift, for the whole shift. Many music schools will have teachers taking care of invoicing, makeup lessons, and booking. At Cafe Music School we want our teachers to focus on teaching, and that's it, so scheduling, makeups, invoicing, payments, drinks, and any questions or concerns are directed to the front desk.
In the heart of North Kildonan in a residential area Cafe Music School is next door to a daycare, grocery store, hair salon, nail salon, insurance place and ice cream shop (big hit in the spring and summer!). We are close to bus stops, to schools, to the Chief Peguis Trail for driving and the Chief Peguis Walking Trail.
FRIENDLY & FUN TEACHERS
I hire my teachers based on a large criteria, it is not always about the Masters Degree and it is not always about the years of teaching experienced students, I need to see a real passion for teaching, a passion for music and their instrument, and a passion for wanting to show other musicians how to enjoy and love music. We have a wide range of teachers from educated instructors with RCM training, many studied or are studying music in University, to newer teachers that are being mentored by our long-time teachers and by me. We look for that spark, that drive and the desire to create lessons that are fun, unique, educational and creative.
We also make sure EVERY single teacher has a Criminal Record Check and a Child Abuse Check, something that is often overlooked at other schools. We talk with parents on a regular basis, we have security cameras set up and I have personal meetings with instructors to go over progress, questions, concerns, lesson plans, etc.
It's all about the students. We make our school all about students and their parents/guardians. The waiting area is for you, it is not for making money, we want you to be comfortable. Our teachers are there for the students, to teach and to focus on teaching. Our staff is there to help and serve so teachers can focus on their part, and our recitals are completely free, they are based out of a local large church that we donate to in order to have our recitals there and we encourage every single student to take part if they would like to! These recitals are in December and June!
FOCUS ON TEACHING
We focus only on teaching music; one of the few music schools who is not a retail store. We focus on the most important part, which is teaching music to students of all ages in all different types of classes. We have guitars for rent and sale, and violins for rent, we also have books and accessories, but we focus on teaching.
WE GIVE BACK
It is incredibly important to me to give music BACK to those who need it most. We have a Heart and Soul Program where we raise funds in order to give music lessons, instruments and classes to those that would not be able to afford these otherwise. We have now partnered with Masterworks Dance Studio downtown (YFC) where we will be offering music lessons at their location, and we will be sponsoring inner-city children in order for them to be able to take these private lessons.
